Philippine Airlines (PAL) has selected IBS Software's cloud-based iCargo platform to replace its current cargo system, with the implementation set to extend across the carrier's domestic and international cargo operations.

IBS Software said the deployment will support PAL's modernisation programme with capabilities spanning the airline's full range of business functions. iCargo is to handle cargo movements in both domestic and international operations, including the international requirements of customs reporting, duties and taxes settlement and regulatory compliance.

The vendor said iCargo already supports carriers with the same mix of demands, providing the flexibility, scale and capabilities to manage domestic and international operations on a single platform.

The transition is intended to address key operational requirements across PAL's cargo operations, including system performance and data analytics. According to IBS Software, the platform will provide capabilities that support:

  • faster shipment processing;
  • greater reliability;
  • end-to-end shipment visibility;
  • reduced manual intervention and more efficient processes.

Those outcomes are described as expected benefits of the implementation rather than results already achieved.

Jason Siy, vice president for cargo business at Philippine Airlines, said the initiative represents an important step in the modernisation of the carrier's cargo business. He said that as the airline grows across its domestic and international network, it needs a system that increases visibility, improves operational efficiency and enables it to deliver a better experience for customers.

Siy described iCargo as a key enabler of PAL's long-term cargo transformation strategy and of its ambition to build a stronger cargo business for the future.

The announcement did not disclose financial terms, an implementation timetable or details of the cargo system being replaced.
